Blackhorse Workshop 4th Birthday Party

Blackhorse Workshop 4th Birthday Party

Long ago in the dim and distant past there was an empty warehouse, a dirty yard, some old machinery and an enthusiastic bunch of makers who built a workshop.

Unbelievably now it’s time to celebrate our 4th birthday…so SAVE THE DATE for Saturday 10th March as we prepare for a night of revelry to mark this occasion. We’re looking forward to some musical mischief with live music from band King Hutch with DJs throughout the night courtesy of Dubroot, Bring the Beat Mack and Vital Sound. Don’t miss the big reveal as we kick start proceedings at 7.30pm in spectacular fashion. We have local favourites Wild Card Brewery beers and food from Walthamstow Dogs. And what’s more it's free entry – and everyone welcome, so hope you can join us.

As usual we will be building a suitably fantastical structure to mark the occasion, and are calling for young hands to make light work of it. So on Saturday 3rd March we’ll be hosting a special afternoon activity for kids to get involved in bringing this magnificent FOUR-A-SAURUS to life…..get your ticket here:

Wilcard Brewery (Lockwood) Grand Re-Opening

WheelUp Soundsystem host the Wild Card Brewery's second location re-opening party, on the other side of Walthamstow in the Lockwood Estate near Blackhorse Road Station.

Bar open all day from noon til midnight with Reggae infused music throughout the day.

The energetic Kan Beng will be performing, a band not to be missed.

"The band’s vision is to create a group blending traditional melodies and rhythms from various cultures with western styles of music to create a unique and intoxicating concoction of traditional Mandinka folk, Berber folk, Jewish folk, funk rock and jungle.

Kan Beng’s influences are eclectic and far-reaching, making for exciting, unpredictable music that mirrors the harmonious message at the band´s core: that music is a universal language that can unite all cultures. Kan Beng represents the confluence of musical cultures, one voice born from many traditions.

The name ‘Kan Beng’ means ‘One Voice’ in Mandinka. The band live up to their namesake by creating music that is at once both deeply spiritual and infectiously dance-able."

WheelUp Soundsystem and friends carry on the party to the late hours in the true WheelUp style with the flavour of Reggae, Dub, Dancehall, Steppas and Jungle.

Blackhorse Workshop Sideshow

This summer, Blackhorse Workshop and specialist regeneration company U+I are presenting SIDESHOW, a new installation that celebrates the maker culture of London, at the Equipment Works site opposite Blackhorse Road station.

Opening this August and running until the end of December 2017, SIDESHOW will host a series of family-friendly exhibitions and invite visitors to get ‘hands on’ with a large interactive marble run, built from London bus components.  This acknowledges the rich history and heritage of the site, which was originally the home of the Associated Equipment Company Factory, whose prototypes inspired the design of London’s iconic Routemaster bus.

Y Not Festival 2016

Y Not Festival 2016

For one weekend a year, the gorgeous Peak District countryside becomes home to the Y Not Festival.

There has been steady, organic growth since it began life as a gathering of young people attending an overspilling house party in deepest, darkest, Derbyshirest, Derbyshire. But it does retain the carefree, good-time atmosphere of those original, dawning years.

The festival is still run by the same small team of passionate enthusiasts it was all those years ago (albeit a little older and a little wiser), but with the same ethos at heart – great people having a great time makes a great festival.

Stunning panoramic views of the countryside, a fully stocked bar of local ales and ciders, a mouth-watering selection of food and more live music than you could ever possibly take in.

All you need to provide is the memories (and a killer fancy dress outfit).

TRUCK Festival

The One With The Snow

Another year, another sunny, sunny affair! However, this time with the addition of snow brought to you by the magically transforming Barn!

The 18th edition of the festival welcomed new faces that included Entirety Labs and Horizons who teamed up to bring us Palm City. The stage showcased the most slamming talent and awesome DJ’s that took you from Funky House all the way to throbbing Techno. It was so easy to see why Palm City was a new found favourite.

Local favourites Switch also came to join the party. Bringing their ever popular nights in Oxford to a stinky sweaty cow barn, SHY FX and DJ Luck & MC Neat also came along for the ride making sure that 2015’s evening entertainment was up with, if not better than past classic TRUCK’s.

It wasn’t all about the new stages, TRUCK 2015 also saw some of the stand out festivals sets of the whole summer; Slaves’ Friday show was potentially the most mental sow Oxfordshire has ever seen. For those who were lucky enough to get in to a packed Barn saw the show that was reminiscent of the classic Foals set of 2007 with crowd surfing and sing-a-longs a plenty to the back drop of a dancing mantaray and some of the most on point and culturally aware Punk since the Pistols.

Other stand out sets during the day come from the returning Darwin Deez, bringing dance moves and classic indie tunes a plenty. The wonderful (relatively local) Lucy Rose played to a mesmerised market stage. While Public Service Broadcasting played to one of the biggest crowds of the weekend showcasing their answer to monotony of current dance pop. The much talked about Rat Boy, came, conquered and caused a stage invasion.

Now was the turn of the special guests Clean Bandit, who belted out there chart conquering album to an ecstatic audience on the TRUCK Stage, proving that there’s no place they’d rather be than TRUCK 2015.

BSTK Festival 2016

Brownstock Festival has fast become one of the UK’s most popular small festivals. See some of music’s biggest DJs and bands up-close and in a festival atmosphere rammed with personality and personal touches.

We were shortlisted for “Best Small Festival” by The UK Festival Awards in 2013 and 2014 and for “Best Dance Event” in 2015. Last year saw our 11th festival since we started with 150 people in 2005. We now see over 6000 visitors.

We are super proud of our varied line up and entertainments across 6 stages, which we think make sure Essex is firmly on the festival map. Beyond the main stage you can head to our huge Good Shed dance big top which has seen sets from some of the best DJs in the world. Meanwhile The Stumble Inn is strictly house music only.

The rest of the festival is scattered with hand built areas and other entertainments.
